PowerSync built the technology. They needed a way to explain it.

What happened when a tech startup built a brilliant piece of technology but needed an intelligent and clear way to tell everyone all about it.

PowerSync built eCommerce solutions that made online shops smile.

An automator that kept inventory, orders, customer and product data in sync across systems that were never designed to talk to each other: Magento and Salesforce.

A Magento/Adobe Commerce recurring revenue solution that enabled customers to buy products once and set up future reorders. Making store owners rejoice.

The engineering was applaud-worthy to developers. But it needed to connect with frazzled shop owners and enterprise decision makers

THE PROBLEM

The site spoke to tech and dev minds. Everyone else saw specs. A merchant landing on the page wasn't deciding whether the technology was good, they were deciding whether anyone here understood their problem at all.

THE BRAND BUILD

PowerSync needed someone who could distill their solutions into benefits and visual language most customers could understand.

The overall brand design was the first piece to begin to bring this together. We turned down the tech jargon and turned up the benefits that shop owners were clicking their mouses for. Evergreen typefaces, color palettes and design elements were used to create a visual system that felt both future focused and reliable.

THE MASCOT

Next, PowerSync needed someone who could guide users to the exact need. Someone charming that conveyed the PowerSync brand. So we created a brand mascot named Stella.

Stella welcomed visitors that stopped by the website. She clarified the hard things and showcased the ease of working with PowerSync and their products. She was the memorable face and embodiment of the brand.

THE WORK

Every nebulous term (sync logic, mapping rules, integration status) got a plain-language icon standing next to it. Type, color, and imagery followed the same rule: Convey wish fulfillment and avoid technology coldness.

The aim of the website was to become a “technology guide to success” for the user. The company mascot, Stella, was leveraged to lead customers through the website content.

THE ICONS

We followed two rules: icons stood in for tech jargon and Stella appeared to help make descriptions quicker to read. Two design decisions to make a technical product feel more like a down to earth but wickedly sharp technology ally.

THE VIDEOS

Next, Stella and the PowerSync visual brand system expanded beyond the desktop and mobile browser to explainer and social videos. We produced a collection of testimonial videos highlighting the successful experiences customers had partnering with PowerSync and their solutions. Stella starred in explainer videos that went the extra mile to simplify their products and solutions into benefits that resonated with PowerSync customers. The stories and videos were proof that the visual brand design and Stella showcased exactly what it felt like to work with PowerSync and use their solutions.

THE JOURNEY ENDS

Like many stories in tech, PowerSync’s journey came to an end. Yet, they will always live on in the Ambidextrous Studio Corazon. A brand that was fearless and nimble. And like AmbiStudio, was out to make a dent in the industry.

What's left is the proof.

Translation and clarity morph confusion into trust. It's the reason this is still the project I reach for when I need to describe what Capsule Design success actually looks like. And it's the same four-move process now built into Capsule Design: Spark, Sprint, and Creative Bolt-On

By all means, enjoy some more!
